When I studied to become an English teacher, I read the collector by John Fowles as part of the 'culture' subject. Despite the fact that reading the book was mandatory, I enjoyed reading it thoroughly.
What's perhaps most intriguing about the book and its story is the fact that you are experiencing the story through the eyes of what could be called the 'bad guy'.
The story itself is about a man who wins a large sum of money in a lottery and decides to purchase a house, modify the basement into a holding cell and abduct a young woman that he admired.
All this in an attempt to make her fall in love with him.
The title and book cover are references to the butterfly collection of the main character.
(I can not, unfortunately, add a picture of the book cover because I am so new on the forum)
